BSK Dev:
Control (⌃), Option (⌥ /Alt) Beauty
This second instalment of a three part series of R&D for the US production house explores beauty volumetrics under subversive treatments, searching for new angles and looks in communication while reimagining well-trodden codes of beauty.
The motion vignettes and supporting stills concepts allow for research to infomr the production as much as contemporay art dierction principples to reimagine beauty materials.

2.1: Comme Des Garcons Parfums iconic pebble bottle was never designed to be beautiful, and neither were the fragrances… Reflecting Rei Kawakubos pushing of boundaries, tearing up notions of taste, comfort, and status to design.
We borrowed from the past and an era where CDG truly made its mark as an aspirational outsider in touch with the zeitgeist. Starting in 1988 CDG released a series of 8 magazines that defined the brand in unique point of view. ’Six’ Magazine showcased brand imagery, advertising, artistic and editorial point of view.
Splash a mechanic of reveal as much as an interactive element. Our art direction that borrows directly from CDG 1988 across retail design, print advertising, photography and Six magazine itself.
The consistency of tears, we have two treatments, a positive and negative - at frist glance similar. The tears of joy and those of sorrow have very different chemical compositions.

2.2: The smear study borrows from a photographic and physical-print source created in-camera for this exploration to create an authenticity that bleeds through. We reconstruct the scene in CGI as a playground of the smear.
Movement, action, materiality and colour consistenciy, translucency and simulation are dialled as a foreign but hard-working substance, - intentionally somewhere between pop-cosmetic, skincare, sunscreen and beauty, both thumbed (without the thumb) and palette knifed in its pull.
This translucency a mechanic in underlying graphics reveal.

2.3: Mobius sand.
Particle, viscous liquidity, moist and congealed breakage.
The movement study in the volumetrics of sand and wet particles combines the principles of drag, spread, disruptive flows in colision, follow-throughs and inertias to materials that are a combination of qualties.
