Shockout
'Shockout' creates a showcase for young dancer Jamal Sterrett as one of Britain's flex pioneers. Myself and director Philip Haynes wanted to capture his relentless dedication and reflect in a jarring way the disjointed and un-nerving movement. Set under strobe lighting the complexities and extent of movements are enhanced, distorted and exaggerated.
Use of colour became integral to the project as as viewing became hard and abrupt in a black and white space. Using colour to break the tough edge and to create visual interest the idea was to really intertwine colour in transitions of sound design and image integration, creating a series of chapters - but without the break.
